The following are some key points to consider when working with or around rotating equipment:
- When working on or near rotating equipment, ensure you shut it down and lock it out before starting the work.
- Barricade the area and install signs that will keep out unauthorized personnel while you are operating rotating equipment.
- Do not wear dangling or torn clothing or have rags hanging from your neck, belt or pockets when working with or around rotating equipment.
- Do not wear any jewelry, including rings and always wear gloves when changing steel or bits.
- If you have long hair, tie it back and tuck it under your hat or coveralls.
- Where applicable, always replace guarding prior to starting rotating equipment.
- If guards are damaged, do not operate the equipment until it has been repaired by a qualified mechanic.
