Vale’s Mechanical Robot Featured at CCMEC 2024

Winnipeg – The Central Canada Mineral Exploration Convention (CCMEC), the largest event of its kind in the region, closes out its two-day event today. Among the features of the conference – a sold-out trade show floor, 16 technical sessions featuring 45 industry experts, two Indigenous keynote speakers, a mine rescue demo, a cultural dance performance and a visit from Vale’s mechanical bot called Rocky, the Rescue Robot, which the company uses to remove employees from risky situations and increase the safety of its operations.

The Mining Association of Manitoba Inc.(MAMI) is managing the convention for the first time, having taken over from a volunteer board that ran it successfully for a number of years. The goal is to expand the convention and make it an international event of choice for the future.

“CCMEC presents a significant opportunity for industry stakeholders to come together, share insights, network and explore opportunities,” said MAMI President and CCMEC Chair Stacy Kennedy. “We want to encourage meaningful discussions about the sector, the challenges, solutions and emerging trends.”

The second and final keynote on November 5 is Glenn Nolan, former President of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. Nolan will discuss the importance of building respectful and meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities, highlighting the collaborations between Missanabie Cree and the Renabie Mine as an example of successful partnership development between communities and the mineral industry.

“We’re very pleased to offer an enhanced Indigenous element this year, showing the industry’s recognition of the critical role Indigenous communities play in resource development, and the importance of collaboration and partnership in the sector,” Kennedy added.

CCMEC thanks all the 2024 participants for their contributions and support, including sponsors, exhibitors, delegates, speakers and volunteers, with special acknowledgement of funding partner Prairies Economic Development Canada, and Vale, MB Operations for its generous commitment at the Diamond level

Additional sponsors at the elite level include Hudbay Minerals, Rodren Drilling and the provincial government’s Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources.
